At a very young age, Sylvain Patry saw his father achieve fulfillment as the owner of a convenience store in Bouchette. Sylvain’s appetite for business began back then, and now, he’s been running his own computer store for more than 20 years.
Sylvain Patry Informatique first hung out its shingle at its current location on Vaillancourt Street in Gracefield back in 2002. A few years earlier after completing his IT and networking management course, he purchased Innovatech in Maniwaki, where he did one of his two internships in 1993. He settled in Gracefield where he launched his new company to offer computer products and services to residential customers.
I have as many residential customers as business customers
When he was younger, Patry spent a few years in Gatineau and in the Montreal region. “But one thing was abundantly clear after my courses were over – I wanted to return to the Gatineau Valley. I love the mentality of the people in the region, and this is a really nice part of the country, he explained. We know our neighbors here. People encourage local business and are big on purchasing locally.”
Most customers come from the Gatineau Valley, and others are from Mont-Laurier, Gatineau, Val-des-Monts and all over the province. This is due to online commerce, particularly for printer ink that the company sells in huge quantity, which means competitive prices for customers.
“I serve new customers every week, said Patry. In the last few years, I’ve added some business clients, and during the pandemic, my company got a huge boost from teleworking. Today, I have as many residential customers as business customers.”
“PEOPLE ENCOURAGE LOCAL BUSINESSES AND ARE BIG ON PURCHASING LOCALLY”
This brings economic benefits to the Valley
Customer service is the cornerstone of his business. “Customers often say that to us, and I like to hear it. That’s what I like about a small company like mine.” Three years ago, son Francis came on board, and since that time, sales have tripled due to customers and the demand.
Customers buy computers, laptops, tablets, software, ink or printers, and can also access computer repair services. There’s everything for gamers. Speaking of his customers, Sylvain Patry is very proud that he has earned the trust of numerous vacationers who deal with him due to the quality sources he provides and his prices that are more affordable than in the city. This brings economic benefits to the Valley.
“PROVIDING SERVICE IS OUR JOB”
Patry believes he’ll be able to triple his sales again in the next few years
A very prosperous future seems to be in the cards for this small Gracefield company. There are plans to hire a technician who will provide in-home service to meet this demand. Patry believes he’ll be able to triple his sales again in the next few years.
“Everything is in place for us to achieve our objectives. Within five years, I’m also planning on turning over the reins of the business to my son. He too has an entrepreneurial bent and loves our region, which he never left.”
